Prevent writing and reading while lying on the bed or couch. Improper reading posture will not only affect the comfort level but it causes unnecessary muscle strain; it will also induce closer reading distance than usual.
Good Viewing Distance
Make sure that reading material and computer monitor is at proper viewing distance. Avoid reading and watching TV or computer monitor at a distance that is too close. Try to maintain the viewing angle at 45 degrees so as to maintain the line of sight at 90 degrees to the reading material.
Contrary to popular belief, not all bright lights are good for eyes. Use correct light intensity that is not too bright until it is glaring to the eyes and not too dark for efficient near work.
The quality of light is as important as light intensity. Diffuse light with little shadows and moderate intensity works best. Do not dim the room completely while reading with a point light source.
Good nutrition will definitely help in preventing other visual related health problems; plenty of fruits, vegetables, milk and fish will supply the eyes with essential nutrients for proper growth and development.
